DAILY PAINTING: "be-YOU-t-ful"
10-08-15: Here's a small oil study of one of the compositions I have in mind. This gave me a chance to get a feel for the actual colors (rather than pastels, I mean) and let me see how they interact. I'm pretty pleased with how it came together and the mood it projects. I painted it in the "alla prima" style, which is Italian for wet on wet.
In keeping with my intention to focus on the false "beauty myth" that the fashion industry presses on girls and women, I have chosen to use the kinds of bright, nearly neon colors that you might see on a billboard or a magazine ad--basically using one of advertising's own tools to highlight their lies.
The good news, ladies, is that we don't have to buy into their message. Be yourself. Be be-YOU-t-ful.
