painting on a colored ground

DAILY PAINTING: Figure painting requires a whole range of subtle nuances, and you've got to mix these at the outset, so that you can compare and balance one against the other. Also, I'm painting on a cool ground, and that will change the "look" of your colors as well. So I've got a scrap piece of paper that I had gessoed and given a coat of a color that is near to my cool ground. I placed a selection of my mixes onto this sample so that I could see how the colors "read" before I paint the figure tomorrow.
